Dr. Colin Osborne, III in Lumberton, NC, offers a wide array of family and cosmetic dental services, from routine checkups to implant procedures. Whether you need a cavity filled, want to find out more about clear braces or are looking to improve your smile, Dr. Osborne can help you. Here are just a few of the services Dr. Osborne offers.
Root canal therapy
Your teeth are made up of three layers, the enamel -- the hard white surface you see in your mirror when you smile -- the dentin and the pulp, which is the inner part of the tooth made up of blood vessels and soft tissues. Occasionally, the pulp can become infected due to a severe cavity or crack in the enamel. When this happens, Dr. Osborne will perform a root canal to repair, strengthen and ultimately save that tooth. While the term “root canal” might sound scary, it’s not. Not only is it painless, a tooth that undergoes root canal treatment will usually last a very long time.
A root canal procedure consists of your dentist numbing the affected area, then removing the inflamed and infected pulp and disinfecting the empty pulp chambers. Your Lumberton dentist will then fill the empty chambers and attach a crown to the tooth.
Sometimes you know when you have a problem – heat and cold sensitivity, bad toothache, for example – but sometimes you don’t. That’s why it’s so important to see Dr. Osborne regularly.
Crowns and bridges
Crowns and bridges are prosthetic dental devices designed to look and act like your real teeth. A crown is simply a prosthetic cover for a tooth – for example, a tooth that has undergone root canal treatment.
A bridge is basically one or more prosthetic teeth your dentist will permanently attach to two “anchor” teeth to fill a gap caused by missing teeth. These are designed to look and act like your real teeth.
Looking to brighten your smile, perhaps even achieve that “Hollywood” look? Dr. Osborne offers in-office whitening services you can probably benefit from and enjoy. Teeth whitening refers to procedures designed to remove stains from teeth that have become discolored over time.
